Rocket Fuel That Keeps You Grounded

Energy boost? Check. Zen vibes? Check.
There is nothing I want more first thing in the morning than a good, strong cup of coffee. My wife and I fondly refer to the delicious beverage as the nectar of the gods. Coworkers often ask me to finish my first cup of coffee before we start any important meetings. And on the weekends, I typically treat myself to a third cup of refreshing cold brew in the early afternoon.
So, when I was presented with Somatik’s Cold Brew

Typically, with any sort of edible or cannabis-infused beverage, my perfect dose is 5mg of
Somatik describes the product as creating a clear and euphoric mind and relaxed body. The THC, when combined with the naturally-occurring caffeine from the coffee, gives a more sativa-leaning feel. So, I decided to try out the coffee during one beautiful Los Angeles morning at the dog beach. While I got my required dose of caffeine, there was an underlying calm over my mind and body throughout the morning. It felt like rocket fuel that ties you to the ground and that ground is a luxurious spa treatment.
Good vibes came on quickly, about 10 minutes after I drank roughly half of the bottle. I felt noticeably uplifted yet relaxed. I spent the following hour walking my pup around the beach and laying in the sand soaking up the sun. Around two hours after I initially drank the weed-infused coffee, the energetic boost began to fade away, leaving me in an extreme zen-like state that would make the most hardcore yogi proud.

My beach adventure went so well I started thinking I might be the type of person to pair a little 1:1 coffee with work for added productivity, which is what I assume the founders had intended. I decided to try the beverage again but this time mixed with my regular homemade coffee on a day I needed to get stuff done. Just like the first time, I began feeling the effects within 10 minutes. But since I mixed it with additional coffee, I was able to drag out my intake to 45 minutes like my regular morning coffee ritual.
Immediately, I was excited to tackle all my household tasks and errands for the day. I was clear-headed, calm, and focused. With the extra coffee added into the mix, the energetic feeling extended well into the second hour. I was able to complete everything on my list with a calm steadiness that tempered the feeling of being high. And just like my first experience, as the “get shit done” feeling began to subside, I was left with an overwhelming sense of peace and tranquility.
The only issue I have with the product is the packaging. There are some nice dosing markers on the side of the bottle, which help you know how much you’re ingesting. The problem is that the bottle has a dark cover which makes it practically impossible to see how much liquid is left in the bottle, making the markers useless. But to be honest, the 1:1 makes this a perfect single serving for me and I did not need to use the measuring tool.
Pro tip: be sure to shake the bottle well before consuming or mixing with your coffee. The first time I tried the cold brew, I forgot to do this and the taste was a bit unbalanced, but easily fixed with a little shake-up.
Overall, this product delivered on the intended effects. I oftentimes get so caught up in getting everything done during the weekend that I forget to actually enjoy some time off before heading back to the office. Adding Somatik’s 1:1 CBD Coffee to my weekend morning routine may be my new favorite thing since it allows me to be productive while still coasting easily into relaxation mode.
