Flower is my favorite way to consume cannabis, and a smooth bong rip is the key to my heart. But I’ve grown to love edibles more and more over the years. I’m always open and looking for new brands because let's be real, some edibles are terrible. Many are too sweet or too processed, the texture can be off and some just don’t offer a great high. Well, here I go again, I found a new brand I hadn't heard of and was excited to try.

Emerald Sky seems to know what's up. Their manufacturing team has a long history of creating candies, with over 25 years under their belt, and some origins dating back all the way to 1902. Their treats are vegan, free of any artificial ingredients, and infused with cannabis from the Emerald Triangle that’s tested multiple times and 100% free of pesticides. They’re very proud to be a Bay Area edible manufacturer, and they're, "Dedicated to an uncompromising standard of quality, flavor, and potency in all handcrafted THC-infused confections.” Their specialties are licorice, gummies, hard candies, and peanut butter cups, and they have quite a few flavors to choose from. I went with North Star Cherry Licorice. Their products range in cannabinoid concentrations, and these are 19:1 CBD to THC, which means they offer a nice mellow high that won't be overpowering.

Taking down one was a perfect little bite at the beach, and things were off to a great start. They’re individually wrapped, which I’m not the biggest fan of, but I assume they do this to keep them fresh. I took a bite and instantly loved this delicious cherry treat. You can tell they know exactly what they’re doing. It wasn’t too sweet, and it offered a nice chewy texture and great flavor. You can tell they use good ingredients—there’s no artificial taste here. Though there was a subtle herbal note that wasn’t overpowering. I have to say it was a very pleasant edible experience.

As I sat in my van, the back doors open facing the ocean, I had the ideal vantage point of waves crashing on the rocky beach. It was the perfect setting to relax. As I read my David Sedaris book, I started to chill out and feel a subtle sensation. My mind was clear, but I felt loosey-goosey below my neck and could feel some tension starting to release. Sometimes I can have a weird experience with too much CBD, but this was the perfect amount for microdosing.

To be honest, I was relaxed enough that a nap sounded really nice. Maybe it had to do with the setting, but I could tell this little treat was doing its job. Once I felt the licorice, it was a consistent sense of relief. The mellowness lasted for a couple hours or so. I felt waves of tranquility, sometimes slightly more intense than others, but never were they overwhelming. As the effects drifted away, it was a nice light experience back to normal. There weren’t any side effects like feeling drained or the “uhh…” feeling you get every now and then from being a little stoney.

This licorice would be perfect on the go, so pack a couple in your handbag for when you face moments of anxiety or just need to chill. And really, if you're going to have a sweet treat, it might as well be infused with cannabis! I think this dose would be good for someone who is new to edibles, or CBD and THC altogether. They’re a great option for experimenting with how you react, or what you might like. This Emerald Sky Licorice would be great for a rainy day cozy sesh, relieving tension or sore muscles, and outdoor adventures that need a little boost. I highly recommend this brand, and I’m glad I found a new edible to turn to. I can't wait to experience more highs from Emerald Sky.
