The Spice of Life

Garden Society's rich and spicy edible provides equal parts energy and inspiration.

IN REVIEW: This sativa-leaning, chili-spiced chocolate bar will fill you with purpose. It’s gluten-free, vegan and just as perfectly dosed for mornings as it is making sense of everything at the end of the day. Expect a sense of clarity to wash over you as you easily cross off tasks on a to-do list or bring your project over the finish line. The long-lasting high's devoid of any scary peaks or heavy crashes, making it a truly reliable workday companion.

The Spiced Dark Chocolate with Chili by The Garden Society is a sativa-leaning edible with a silk-like texture that paired nicely with my early morning espresso. This combo also made for the entirety of my breakfast. I wanted to keep it light as I was about to set off on an early morning hike that could even break out into a run at times. I was looking for a quick jolt of energy that would propel me into accomplishing something like a workout at the ungodly hour of 6:30 in the morning.

I started to ooze positivity in the way a person at 6:30 in the morning never should.

After a quick onset of around 20 minutes or so, I started to shift away from the frenetic perspective of the previous work week and settle into a more intuitive and curious state of mind. Once the high fully took hold, I felt that nice undercurrent of energy that helped me keep a brisk pace and open heart in what must have been 40 degree weather. This pretty much meant I was the only human walking the trails at that time, and it made for a lot of introspection. Each piece of spiced dark chocolate contains 10mgs of THC, and I consumed one and a half. That was just enough to help me totally immerse myself into the cold winter morning, and experience moments of true exuberance amidst a raw and expansive setting.

There’s a mouthwatering richness to this chocolate that really calls for savoring. I personally could have done without the chili, but that’s only because I have certain Philistine notions about spice being reserved for the savory meals of the world and start to get nervous when people are tossing scoville units into my Mars Bars. That personal preference aside, the cannabis taste actually added a nice accent to the kick of the chili, and I found that only added to its lingering complexity. For those who are staying away from dairy, you will be pleased to learn that these are vegan as well as gluten free.

I didn’t feel any hints of anxiety or agitation with this edible. My experience was to the contrary. I started to ooze positivity in the way a person at 6:30 in the morning never should, and I felt that alone was a victory towards something greater. The openness that I was feeling would make the high worth sharing with others. Moments of insight ripe for dialogue, and a willingness to forgo any preconceived notions in an effort to stay connected.

You get a great blend of focus and frivolity that will take you far in any fun-filled atmosphere.

I could see these chocolates being a big hit at any laidback get together or garden society affair. You get a great blend of focus and frivolity that will take you far in any fun-filled atmosphere. While such events are more seldom held these days as a result of social distancing, this is no reason to fall into retreat. I just took it as a queue to be your own best company. Pining for what once was and will be again is no way to spend a high. The focusing nature of this Garden Society treat helped put those things into perspective, while assisting me in gaining better traction for the present. It also helps when you’re looking for literal traction out on the trails. My early morning fun run, coupled with this moderate but memorable high, helped bring me into the mental fold of good vibes. Something that set a positive tone for the day while managing to extract the spice out of life.

This was a fairly long lasting high that works great as a morning boost. The hint of chili and texture make for a unique mouthfeel, while the sativa cannabis transports you to a place of upbeat positivity.
