Kanha Girl Get Some Sleep?

While these gummies won’t get stellar marks for taste, they’ll at least have you counting sheep in haste.

IN REVIEW: Keep these bright blue gummies in your nightstand for the evenings you need a fast-acting, reliable sleep aid. Each piece packs in 15 total milligrams of cannabinoids to provide an entourage effect that’s ready to kick insomnia to the curb. Expect a high much heavier in your body than your mind, though if you do fight through sleep you’ll soon find that it isn’t a slouch in that department either. Start with one, as going too hard could give you a slight hangover the following morning.

As a cannabis journalist who’s battled insomnia since childhood, it’s safe to say I have a firm grasp on the weed sleep aid market. Over the years, I’ve tried it all. From melatonin vape pens and nighttime edibles to every drip, drop, and pill you can imagine, it’s a pretty mixed bag. Some of them are incredible, even life-changing. Others make you wish you’d picked up Nyquil on the way home.

These gummies from Kanha fall midpoint on this spectrum. For some, they could be life-changing. For others, not so much.

When I was assigned to review Kanha's 1:1 Tranquility Gummies, a brand I’d never come into contact with, my first impression was that they seemed unnaturally blue. Pulling them out of the bag, each 5mg THC, 5mg CBN and 5mg CBD gummy was a small circle of totally opaque, electric blue. Not exactly the optics I look for in any edible, really, but especially not one that’s supposed to send me to sleep.

However, that night found me anxious, staring down the barrel of a super busy Tuesday. Three deadlines, other stuff, I was stressed. All that mattered at that point was that I got to sleep, and got to sleep soon. It had been a wild day. I was still buzzing from a million Zoom calls and the tail end of a weird hangover from my last psychedelic bender. Any sleep aid was welcome.

Not only were there no chemicals in these gummies, they’re actually totally legit, with no creepy ingredients at all.

I emptied the bag in my hand. Electric blue gummies stared back, smelling like cotton-candy bubblegum. I popped all three in my mouth for a total of 15mg THC, 15mg CBD, 15mg CBN and 3mg melatonin. The presence of CBN in these gummies is something to note, a cannabinoid that’s been gaining popularity in products due to its incredible application as a sleep aid, among other things.

To be blunt, the flavor was fucking gross. They tasted like straight up granulated sugar, blue food coloring, and gnarly ass chemicals. It was so strange that I made the noise "Bleh" at one point. However, I did like the texture. It was bouncy, yet crunchy.

Based on the explosion of a strange flavor I can only describe as artificial, I was shocked when I looked at my tongue in the mirror and it wasn’t bright blue. Maybe the ingredients weren’t as bad as I assumed?

A quick trip to Kanha’s parent brand’s website, Sunderstorm, proved my initial impression entirely wrong. Not only were there no chemicals in these gummies, they’re actually totally legit, with no creepy ingredients at all.

To fall asleep around thirty minutes after taking a cannabis sleep aid is great.

Sunderstorm is an umbrella company that houses a few brands, including Wind vapes, a sublingual and a flower brand. Kahna is their gummy subsect. According to their instagram, it’s the #1 gummy in California. According to who, I’m not exactly sure, as Headset data listed Wyld and Kiva gummies as the most popular over the past couple years. Why these gummies taste so icky, I have no idea. But if they’re going to compete with brands like these, they have a long way to go.

For this review, I decided to keep a log of how these gummies worked, recording every 15 minutes from the moment I ate them until I was completely out.

Here goes. All notes verbatim:

10:25 (pm): Ate 15mg of the gummies (3) Wuz gross. Feeling munch, going to snack and watch TV.

10:40: Starting to feel sleepy, can’t tell if it’s just placebo, but I really am! Wonder if they use nano-infusion technology so it hits faster.

10:55: A little more awake than I was fifteen minutes ago, but I can feel sleep rolling in like a deep gray fog.

11:10: *I never got this far, as I fell asleep almost immediately after recording the last note.*

On the bright side: To fall asleep around thirty minutes after taking a cannabis sleep aid is great. I’m totally impressed by how fast this product made me pass out, for sure. Also, I slept through the entire night, not just for four hours, which is a problem I’ve experienced with other products.

On the dark side: I woke up feeling like a bitch. Everything was annoying. The light was too bright, my editor was a dick, and all I wanted to do was sleep sleep sleeeeeeeep. About an hour later, I felt way better. So, it wasn’t that bad, I guess.

Bottom line: these gummies are just okay. They work really well, but they taste strange and I personally don’t love eating squishy candy right before bed. But! If you need to pass out and pass out fast, it’s worth it to brave the weirdness.
