Loudpack’s cannabis-infused mints are refreshing in every way.
IN REVIEW: The makers of some of our favorite
Back in BQ (Before Quarantine) times, going out to a restaurant with friends was one of my favorite “Sunday Funday” activities. It now feels less like a light afternoon excursion, and more like an obstacle course through treacherous landscapes rife with disease. What used to be relaxing has become the X-Games of anxiety. To help ease my worry of being out in a contaminated world so I could focus on the fun, I chose Loudpack’s Cannabis Infused Peppermints as my performance-enhancing drug.
“An excellent way to maintain a low-dosed buzz throughout the day, while also freshening up your breath and mind a bit.”
After months of isolation (dotted briefly with visits to protests and drive-ins), three of my closest quarantine-pod pals and I decided we would finally venture into the wilderness of outdoor ‘al fresco’ dining. I needed something that would help me zone out from my anxiety about the world and focus on my friends. I ate 3 mints (7.5mg, since my normal dose is 5-10mg), as I was also fighting a gnarly hangover. They helped ease the aches & pains in my body and nixed my nausea. I even got a small bit of appetite back, which allowed me to actually enjoy eating food rather than just sit there quietly spinning out.
I found the size of these mints to be the perfect porridge-bowl for this edibles-eatin’ Goldilocks. Each individual mint is on the larger side compared to others I’ve tried, which makes it feel more like a real treat than just a way to take your medicine. They’re also great if you want to use them like a real mint to freshen your breath because unlike other cannabis mints, they actually do!
The 2.5mg of THC is low enough to be handy for micro-dosing, but can easily be added to something more substantial for someone with a higher tolerance. Compared to other low-dose edibles I’ve tried of the same strength, I could actually feel these, even with just one; meaning whatever form of distillate they use is on point. Though it may seem like a silly detail, I was even enamored with the packaging. It's easy to open and use, and a decent size to carry around without being overly cumbersome: not too big for a pocket and not so small that I’d lose it in my crowded purse. It’s nice to find something so easy to both consume and carry.
They smelled a bit like Listerine, but tasted like a normal wintergreen mint. The flavor is slightly reminiscent of some dentist-level tooth care, but they’re still sweet and enjoyable. These mints are an excellent way to maintain a low-dosed buzz throughout the day, while also freshening up your breath and mind a bit.
As we dined at a table on the sidewalk, I could feel my anxiety crescendo as each pedestrian walked past the café, but the mints kept my entire body from clenching up like a fist. They simply took the edge off without making me feel groggy. I soon noticed I was laughing just a little too hard at my friends’ very stupid jokes. I definitely had a stoner-like sense of giggly euphoria creeping up once the meal helped me fully digest and absorb the THC. (Pro tip: THC is fat-soluble, so if you’re consuming an edible without any fat content, you may feel a boost in effects after eating some delicious, fatty food) I tried in vain to dampen my loud guffaws, and was actually grateful to be able to hide my very goofy stoner smile behind my mask as we left.
Before we all went our separate ways, my friend started playing us a song on her Bluetooth speaker. We all started bouncing to it, amped up on the energy of our big-yet-little alfresco adventure. The three of us burst into an impromptu socially-distanced-dance-party right in the parking lot. It was almost a way to hug each other without touching. Passers-by watched us kick and spin with our masks on, most of them smiling. I like to think that a little bit of our happiness spread out to them. We were working out some pent-up anxiety, and reminding ourselves that you can release that inner tension by dancing on a sidewalk like a gleeful maniac instead of screaming at maskless shoppers in a grocery store. It was a hopeful dance, that no matter what darkness, pain and loneliness the world brings, the power of joy always persists.
“The mints soothed my aches and pains so I could focus on the more enjoyable, beautiful parts of the day.”
As I walked home, I could feel the effects waning as some of my hangover discomfort came back. That’s when I knew the mints had definitely helped soothe my aches and pains so I could focus on the more enjoyable, beautiful parts of the day, both physical and mental.
If you're looking for something low-dose for managing daily anxiety, but also want a bit of a euphoric kick, these Loudpack Mints are perfect. They helped manage my anxiety while lending a bit of buoyancy that allowed me to glide through a nervous day. They also helped alleviate some nausea and general downer-vibes I had from a hangover combined with PMS. (Later in the week, I used them to alleviate some cramps, and they did a great job at that too without ever bringing me down.) They eased some of my physical pain, and made me feel mentally better about any lingering discomfort. Like an impromptu parking-lot dance party, in a mint
