To be clear, my job doesn't require a lot of me. It pretty much entails smiling at old, rich women and telling them they look good in the overpriced sweater they’re trying on. Even so, I was over it once the gummies kicked in and wanted nothing more than to hide behind my desk and wait for the store to clear out before returning to planet earth.

The cannabis gods must of heard my prayers, because almost immediately after the paranoia set in, it began to pour rain outside and the store completely cleared out. This wasn’t a light rain either but a grab-your-hats downpour. I breathed a deep sigh of paranoid relief and put on Heathers. For whatever reason, Winona Ryder throwback films felt like the best content to take my mind off of the fact I was going to need to somehow close shop, find my bus stop, and navigate home all while being way too high. Luckily, the paranoia wore off within the first hour and the peak only really lasted two hours total. After that, I was in a relaxed haze and actually enjoyed helping customers once the rain stopped and they began trickling in again. I’m sure my eyes looked heavily stoned, but working next door to a pot shop means most of the clientele is heading there after buying their overpriced sweaters anyway.

Personally, I’ve never had any problem smoking highly potent flower—I could do that all day. But my edible tolerance has never been legendary, which is surprisingly common among regular users. If you’re at all like me and can easily overdo it on the edible front, Robhots gummies might be too tasty. People with higher tolerances or medicinal users, however, will most likely love them. They really are too delicious to only eat one, or even worse, half. The good news is that once the initial paranoia kicked in, it didn’t get any worse. If anything, it was a perfectly fine tradeoff for a tasty treat and an otherwise comfortable high. In my mind, 20 minutes of feeling a bit delusional is nothing in the context of the total experience.

Robhots gummies come in different colors, which I assume is supposed to be the “fruits” component, but don’t be fooled—they all taste the same. The way they start off sweet and end with a subtle, sour tanginess is reminiscent of watermelon Sour Patch Kids. Also, you can barely taste the cannabis in them, which hasn’t been my experience with most of the gummy candies in Colorado. In my experience, some gummies will have an incredible initial taste that unravels into a bad distillate aftertaste that leaves your mouth feeling a little herbally. That’s perfectly fine if you’re into that sort of thing, but my preference is candy that tastes like candy. I am of the opinion that an herbal aftertaste belongs in the flower and concentrate section, not fruit-flavored gummies.

As with any edible, just be careful how many you eat. For the excellent flavor alone, these are probably not the best edibles to recommend to novices. Unless you are in chronic pain and therefore have a higher tolerance to strong edibles, I wouldn’t recommend public activities or work while consuming these tasty treats. And even though I experienced a bit of paranoia, I’d totally try them again. Once the paranoia wore off, I actually felt rather social and upbeat. The trick is in getting your dose just right and that takes practice, patience, and a good deal of restraint—something even I, a cannabis pro, need to work on every now and then.
