Finally, A Pain Reliever I Can Feel Good About

All it took was a couple hits.
“Can Cannabis Help End the Opioid Crisis in the US?” This is a title I read almost weekly on Facebook. I get in the car, turn on AM talk radio, and hear about pharmaceutical companies taking doctors out to dinner to convince them to prescribe more opioids. Every time I hear one of these stories, it makes me reflect back on my own experience with both prescribed medications and cannabis. In 2014, I was taking a total of five pills—two of which were for my fibromyalgia—plus birth control every night. Before Lady Gaga called attention to the illness in Gaga: Five Foot Two, I’ve been dealing with the constant aches and pains. I got about 18 text messages from friends and family after Netflix debuted the documentary. “I had no idea” was the most common sentiment of those texts messages. And that’s the thing. No one knows. It’s not visible to the naked eye but it’s definitely there.
“Because these pre-rolls provided a soothing bath for my muscles, I’m glad they don’t necessarily scream weed.”
After leaving a job and losing my health benefits, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to keep purchasing all my meds at full cost because, well, that’s healthcare in America. I dove deep into months of research trying to figure out how I could replace those prescription medications with nutrition, exercise, and cannabis. On the bright side, being on and off so many meds has allowed me to truly get a sense of what my body is feeling. It’s become habit for me to regularly check how my body is feeling and cross reference those feelings with foods and activities that might be causing any discomfort. Now that I’m a pro at this, I have a list of different natural remedies on hand for any curve balls fibromyalgia sends my way. Lonely’s Seven Pinners pre-rolls have now made it onto that list.
There are a few reasons why Lonely’s Seven Pinners pre-rolls made it onto the list, starting with their aroma. Now, normally I love the smell of weed. I always have and I imagine I always will. Lonely’s pre-rolls don’t have a very memorable scent, but after smoking them, I’m glad they don’t. Why, you ask? Discretion, that’s why. Because these pre-rolls provided a soothing bath for my muscles, I’m glad they don’t necessarily scream weed. When pain strikes, I have my go-to bag of goodies, which includes Papa & Barkley’s massage oil, turmeric pills to help with inflammation, and definitely some
As you can probably guess, the other reason these pre-rolls made the list is also the most important: the effect. Almost immediately after taking the first couple hits, I felt a soothing warmth rush down my legs. My thighs and the backs of my knees are trigger points with fibromyalgia and for about an hour or two, the pain was practically nonexistent. While I did feel a sense of euphoria, my mind was still clear and calm. It’s rare that I find something that works this well. I felt tickled by the amount of joy I was experiencing. My body was soothed but my mind felt energized. I felt just a tinge of jitters toward the beginning of the high, but that could’ve come from my genuine excitement. I almost never lounge outside, and these pre-rolls made me feel comfortable enough to do so. Add to that a light, pleasant flavor and smooth, effortless smokability, and you’ve got a winning pre-roll on your hands.
By the end of the session, I was feeling blissed out. It felt like the afterglow of a perfect Sunday afternoon in which you fit in a nap and knock a few items off your to-do list. I soaked up some vitamin D—check. Edited some photos for the ‘gram—check. Updated my Pinterest boards—check. As the high wore off, I was surprised to find that I felt refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the evening. So, to answer the question, “Can cannabis help end the opioid crisis in the US?” I believe the answer is yes and no. Everyone is different, but for myself I’ve found cannabis to be a lifesaver. It’s a trial-and-error process we’ll likely all have to embark on at one point or another. In my case, Lonely’s Seven Pinners pre-rolls helped me know myself that much better.
