IN REVIEW: This
I’ve been dealing with a bit of brain fog lately. Maybe it's my ADD, but my mind has been drifting around in a daydream. I pause in thought, lack focus, and find it hard to organize my attention or intentions. It’s also been hitting me harder in the morning, which is just not me. I’ve always been a morning person.
When I think about it, it could all be due to the fact I’ve been home for over a year now and haven't had as much exposure to nature. Trips outdoors have been extremely minimal these days, and it’s key to have a balance between fresh air, sprawling landscapes, and my day-to-day at home. And while jaunts in nature are important to my mental wellbeing, they will come. Though in the meantime, I need to focus on what I can to address this brain fog at home.
“I was uplifted, I was stoned, and I was settling into a new flow state.”
I’ve been looking for new strains to help my ADD, release me from my haze, and get me in the zone so I can get shit done. Well, I found a hybrid that’s zingy, and it’ll have you focused in no time. Foxy, a California cannabis brand that operates indoors, takes note of the relationship cannabis has to the human experience and believes it should be viewed through a wider cultural aperture.
Looking at the strains they grow, each one boasts high THC, and most appear to be interesting hybrids. I chose to try their Pope’s Pie, a 30% THC hybrid of Sunset Sherbert and Biscotti. It promised chill times and some heady highs, and I was all for it. The flower is dense, dark green, and covered in purple tones and orange pistols. It's vibrant, fragrant, and well, just fantastic. I thought I’d roll a joint on my backyard porch for this session. So I opened up the pouch and was immediately struck by its woodsy, citrus, and overall fresh notes.
It was time to try this beautiful bud, and I lit my hemp wick and took a puff. The smoking experience was super flavorful, but a little sharp on the inhale. The flavors of tart fruits and sweet woodsy notes came through and left a pleasant aftertaste that played across my palette. It was complex and reminded me of an earthy fragrance or body oil as the layered terpenes started to really come through. I was intrigued to see where this high would take me, and as soon as I finished smoking, I found myself basking in a new appreciation for the abundant sunshine. I hung out in the backyard for a moment to water the garden, and within 5 or so minutes, I noticed I was pretty ripped.
I was uplifted, I was stoned, and I was settling into a new flow state. This high left me hyper-focused, and I started tidying up, putting stuff away, and before I knew it I was cleaning my entire house. This was the flower I was looking for! The brain fog that has been looming around was definitely gone, though I do think because of its high THC, this would be best consumed in smaller joints or bong rips. With that said, I decided to test that theory by rolling a larger joint to see what this flower was really about.
What I found was some slight dry mouth, and maybe a little paranoia that would come and go. With such a high-energy head high, I felt jittery and jumpy in my mind, and I had a buzzin’ body high. But as soon as this Pope’s Pie high settled in, I became more mellow in my state of focused chill. I also noticed that it tapped into a heavy sensory experience. Washing my hands, I could feel the icy cold water change to hot and toasty. And it might sound funny, but the sounds of my environment were incredibly detailed.
“You can expect to feel alert and ready to go.”
I could hear each bird and neighbor out the window, and every car that passed at the end of the street. I just felt tapped into the details of the world around me. Though these effects didn’t stick around for too long. After a bit of time had gone by, my high went through a distinct change. It was almost like the intensity dropped down a level, the stoney jitters went away and I felt cool, calm and collected. Though as the heavier vibes disappeared, the fogginess never set back in.
This Pope’s pie is a wonderful hybrid I would highly recommend for anyone looking to be productive, focus on a project, or get rid of that brain fog throughout the day. You can simply expect to feel alert and ready to go with spirits that are as high as you! I would say start small, and if you do go hard, be prepared to be truly smacked.
